TC on media literacy

From 10 to 21 October 2010 an international training course of youngsters and youth workers from Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Austria, Greece, Italy, Ukraine and Russia was organised within the framework of Youth 4 NEWS project. It was implemented by Association International Initiatives for Cooperation” in partnership with 9 member organizations of youthNET network and aimed at adopting and applying some of the tools and instruments of media into youth work with the purpose to create a better image of the youth.
Media appears to have an increasing role in the daily life of civil society organisations and in particular of youth organisations as by using appropriately its potential we can reach a wide circle of youngsters, even disadvantaged ones.
The partners cooperated to introduce and apply the variety of opportunities that media provides in order to positively influence youngsters in becoming  responsible and active citizens by developing their critical thinking and personal, social and professional skills, and to encourage peace-building and  conflict prevention.
The main workshops that were held during the event are as follows:
§  Free Web Tools
§  Public Action
§  Filming and Editing
§  Press Workshop and Radio Workshop.
During the workshops specialists in the media field have shared their knowledge and experience with the participants.
At the end of the meeting a flash mob was organised to raise public awareness in the topic of media literacy and active participation. The youngsters danced and sang dressed in specially designed raincoats, sending their message to the world: Be media literate! Act imMEDIAtely! The project was organised with the financial support of the Council of Europe through the European Youth Foundation.
